Classic, with a twist

Posted by: admin In: Creative Review

To mark the 150th anniversary of the bentwood classic 214 Chair, Thonet is producing a special edition, with a twist

The 214 K chair was originally designed in 1859 by Michael Thonet. It’s still produced today at the Thonet family’s factory in Frankenberg, Hesse.

2009 sees Thonet celebrate the 190th anniversary of the founding of the company by Michael Thonet and the 150th anniversary of the bentwood classic 214 Chair (formerly 14 Chair).

Thonet is producing this special edition chair for the Bauhaus exhibition in Germany (Weimar, Dessau and Berlin July – October 2009) and New York (MOMA November 2009 – January 2010) and a special children’s edition of the bentwood chair.
